Assignment Book (Planner)
· Students will be given an assignment book to keep track of what is happening in class and what’s for homework.
· Assignment books will be checked the following morning during homework check-in for accuracy.
· Assignment books will need to be signed daily to receive the privilege of playing Homeworkopoly.
Assignment Agenda Planner
· All assignments will be posted on the whiteboard each day and also will be posted on my website.
· Handouts given out in class will be in a designated box on the window sill.
Homework
· Homework will be unfinished class work assigned daily. Due dates will always be the following day unless stated. A Write Me A Story (FULL PAGE) essay will be assigned every Monday and is due Friday.
No spiral notebooks allowed for any assignments except for class notes.

Late Work
. Late work will result in a behavior ticket to the recess room. If it is finished during this time it will be graded for full credit.
· If a student misses TWO homework assignments during a week, the student will NOT be allowed to join in on Friday Activity and will receive a Blue Sheet.
BLUE SHEETS
Scholar Dollars
· Scholar Dollars are passed out for good behavior, perfect papers, and helping out. Students may trade in their dollars for snacks (at break) or save up for the class auctions. Students need to be aware that they also use the dollars to pay for items needed in class.
Class Auction
· There will be a final auction the last day of school. Items are auctioned off to the highest bidder. Students may not share their dollars or combine them. Items for auction may be donated to the class with parent permission.
Students are urged to save their scholar dollars for the final auction.
Bathroom and Drinks
· All students must pay five scholar dollars to go to the restroom and to get a drink during instruction time.
· Students are not allowed to go to the restroom during teacher directed lessons.
· Students SHOULD do their duties while class is recessed for break.
· Students who cannot pay owe recess for payment.
**I do recommend closed water bottles during the warm season. Students will need to pay every time they fill up their water bottles.
Phone Use
· The classroom phone is available to students only in an emergency. It is not intended to be used if they need to contact someone for lunch money, forgot their homework or supplies, need a ride home, or for permission to go with a friend.
· Students should not abuse this privilege and need to be responsible for making arrangements ahead of time.
Classroom Library
· Students are encouraged to read all the time, so the classroom is supplied with my personal books. Many of the books are Accelerated Reading books and in varying levels.
· A check out system is in place and the students are allowed to check out books.
· Students may take my books home if they are responsible and treat them as though they are their own books or the public library's. In an extreme circumstance a book my have to be replaced due to damage or lost. A book replacement or $5.00 (price of most paperback books) will be accepted. A written note signed by me will be given as proof of replacement.
School Library
· Students may go to the school library daily to check out AR books.
Other types of books are to be checked out during their library time.
Accelerated Reader
· Each student will be responsible for meeting a goal set for him or her based on his or her ZPD, Zone of Proximal Development or reading level.
· Certificate levels will also be set and students can earn a reading certificate based on the requirements set for them. On completion of a certificate they will be rewarded by Mrs. Ringler and placed on a Hall of Fame board in the hallway.
· Accelerated Reader is averaged into the reading grade and if done successfully can significantly improve a student's reading grade. It could also hurt a grade if a student fails to meet their goal.
YOU MUST MAKE YOUR AR GOAL TO RECEIVE RECESS THE FOLLOWING MARKING PERIOD!
Accelerated Reader
Students will read at least 30 minutes in class and are assigned 30 minutes of reading homework per night, but I have learned that it is very important that they spend that time and more reading.
· AR time is given to the students in class, but students will be required to read EVERY evening including Fridays. To monitor reading, students will complete a reading journal and reading log.
FRIDAY ACTIVITY
Because I want to concentrate on the positive, any student who has behaved appropriately and has completed his schoolwork will be rewarded with a Fun Friday Activity.
Once the snow flies, boots and indoor shoes will be required.
Snacks
We will have a snack time daily at break. The time varies every day but it is around 10:00 a.m. You may send a nutritious snack from home. Be aware that the students may purchase snacks from me at this time with their Scholar Dollars.
Friday Folders
A folder containing the week’s work and other important papers will go home each Friday. Folders must be signed and returned.
Agenda Notebooks
Please sign your child’s assignment book daily. It is your child’s responsibility to show you his/her agenda book each day and get your signature. Do not sign it if it is blank, as the assignment has not been copied. Students will not receive a scholar dollar if if their agenda book is not signed.

This is our way of communicating and keeping record of specific student habits with the home. It means that your child will receive a consequence here at school aimed at helping him establish a fix for the problem, and alerting you where your child needs help at home establishing habits that will fix the problem.

- Parents may volunteer to send enough snacks for the class on Fridays.
- Students may practice a particular skill and perform it for our Friday Talent Show. Note to parents: Please monitor this so that the song or activity is school appropriate.
- Another part of Friday Activity is "A Minute To Win It" type of activity provided by the teacher.
- And yet another, ELECTRONIC FRIDAYS. Students can bring and play an electronic device during this fun free activity time.
